Young People David Carson, Optimistica's consultant, works as a coach/practitioner with individuals and with organsiations.

David's work has included helping people to deal more effectively with such issues as stress, anxiety, low mood, smoking cessation, weight control through mindful eating and motivation for exercise.

Through his work with a drugs, alcohol and homelessness charity, he has designed several successful learning & development programmes for NHS trusts.

In addition, he regularly trains groups from the private and public sector including NHS staff in Motivational Interviewing, drug and alcohol awareness, solution focussed therapy and identification and brief advice for alcohol.

His recent work with the City of London Police and Black Police Association was centred on Stress Reduction and involved training staff in how to utilise Mindfulness in dealing with stress. He has also ran successful bite-sized programmes on Optimism, Resilience, Values and Strengths.

Other projects have included the setting up of mentoring programmes for young people in association with the City of London Police Black Police Association and The City of London Academy. In this project David trained police officers and support workers to be mentors for some students at the Academy. As part of this project David trained the students selected for the programme at their Academy.

In another mentoring programme for young people David again trained officers and staff from The City of London Police to mentor young people in the age range of 16 to 24. This project is geared at helping young people find their way in life.
